I, Robot Movie Summary and Review

The main characters for the movie are: Sonny the robot, Del Spooner the detective, Dr.Suzan Calvin, and Dr. Alferd Lanning designer for the NS-5 robots. The movie takes place in 2035 Chicago, where robots rome the planet obeying their human master. All following the basic laws:

1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2) A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Dr.Alferd Lanning, creator of the NS-5 robots and the robotic laws, has died and Detective Spooner is on the investigation. Spooner believes that a robot has killed the amazing doctor so he searches his lab and he finds a robot named Sonny. Sonny happily attacked Spooner and Dr.Calvin, which means he is not programmed with the robotic laws. Sonny was a threat to all human life. As Spooner investigates he finds out that all NS-5 robots have a choice to obey the laws or not. The robots went out of control and started attacking humans and the police station. Spooner and Dr.Calvin get to U.S.R (the company that owns the robots) ,and with the help of Sonny, figure out that VICKI another robot system has got the robots under her control. She believes that to save humanity, you must give up some human lives. But they eventually destroy VICKI and the NS-5 are back under control. U.S.R send the NS-5 to a ruined yard to be taken away.

The main idea of the movie never put to much trust in to technology.

I,Robot Movie Questions

1) If VICKI is programmed with the 3 laws how can she make robots ignore the laws and kill humans?
VICKI has a choice to follow the laws or completely ignore them.

2) When Spooner was in the tunnel and two NS-5 robot trucks came in and boxed him, who was responsible for that?
VICKI did! Robertson (U.S.R CEO) was merely annoyed with Spooner for continuing to investigate the robots.

3) What are the laws of robotics?
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2) A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

4)When did the movie take place?
2035

5)Where did the movie take place?
2032 Chicago, United States of America (U.S.A)

I give I,Robot 3 stars. My reasoning for giving the movie 3 stars is because, some parts of the movie was hard to understand, such as the rending of the movie. The actors did a great job with their acting and stunts. One thing i loved about this movie was the action and the robots. The robots looked so realistic, you would actually believe they were real. The action was great with all the high jumps, the fighting and gunshots. The final battle against the robots was really good, the bravery they showed to stand up to wild robots.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0- The term 2.0 comes from the software industry.Like software, the new generation of the Web includes new features that was not available in the past.Web 2.0 does not refer to a specific version of the Web.
Some examples of features that are apart of Web 2.0 are listed below:
Blogs - also known as Web logs, these allow users to post thoughts and updates about their life on the Web.
Wikis - sites like Wikipedia and others enable users from around the world to add and update online content.
Social networking - sites like Facebook and MySpace allow users to build and customize their own profile sand communicate with friends.
Web applications - a broad range of new applications make it possible for users to run programs directly in a Web browser.

Rodney Brooks says robots will invade our lives

In this TED video Rodney Brooks showed the intelligence, interactions and emotions of robots. For example  when the KISMET robot was told he was doing bad, he lowered his head in shame. When the robot was having a conversation with another person he was focused and followed the eye direction of the human and kept up with the conversation while making eye contact. Two piece of  information i found interesting is the fact that a robot can keep up a conversation and not just drop out of it or get confused but can actually say real English words. The emotions that the robot showed was very interesting to me, considering the fact that a robot is a man-made machine but can show emotion like any other human is very interesting to me. It show happiness and shame like any other human in this world. They are just like humans in a way. But one question remains: will these robots try to take over our lives? Once they figure out they are more devolved than us, in certain ways. Well that is something that we will have to wait to find out.

All About Robots

10 Different Robots

1) industrial robots- are robots used in industries and are mainly used in a manufacturing environment. These robots preform task such as welding, painting, material handling and others.

2) Domestic and house hold robot- are robots your use at your house. This type of robots includes many different devices such as robotic vacuum cleaners, robotic pool cleaners, sweepers, gutter cleaners and other robots that can do different chores.

3)Medical robots - are robots used in medicine and medical institutions. Such as - surgery robots. Also, some automated guided vehicles and maybe lifting aides.

4)Service robots - are robot that can gather different data togther, robots made to show off technologies, robots used for research, etc.

5)Military robots - are robots used in military. This type of robots includes bomb disposal robots, different transportation robots. Often robots created for military purposes can be used in law enforcement, search and rescue and other related fields.

6)Entertainment robots - are robots used for entertainment. It can be toy robots such as robosapien or the running alarm clock and real heavyweights such as articulated robot arms used as motion simulators.

7)Space robots - are robots used in space. This type would include robots used on the International Space Station, Canadarm that was used in Shuttles, as well as Mars rovers and other robots used in space.

8)Hobby and competition robots - are robots that you create. Line followers, sumo-bots, robots made just for fun and robots made for competition.

9)Robot kits-Robotic kits like Lego Mindstorms, BIOLOID, OLLO from ROBOTIS, or BotBrain Educational Robots can help children to learn about mathematics, physics, programming, and electronics.

10)Soft Robots-Robots with silicone bodies and flexible air muscleselectroactive polymers, and ferrofluids, controlled using logic and neural networks, look and feel different from robots with rigid skeletons, and can have different behaviors.

INTRO TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

1) Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence of machinery and robotics. It basically is the science and engineering of intelligent machines such as, robots, phones, laptops etc.

2a) 5 devices that use AI are

  • 1. Cell Phones
  • 2. Gaming Consoles
  • 3. Computers
  • 4. GPS (Cars)
  • 5. Robots

b)Technology in 2030 will be very advanced because by then there will be more features and new uses of technology. Cellphones, Computers, and other things that use technology will be more creative and will have more features in them, everything will be changed by then. No one would probably remember the greatest phone of our time, iPhone, there would probably be other phones that have greater features.
